Sameena Jahangir

Sameena Jahangir is a Partner within the Corporate and Tax team at Kochhar & Co. in the Mumbai office, specialising in Corporate Law. She is a corporate and tax lawyer with more than 16 years of post-qualification experience and is also a qualified company secretary. Her practice encompasses corporate law, company laws, foreign investments, transaction advisory, secretarial compliance, direct taxation, regulatory affairs, and employment law.

Sameena has significant expertise in drafting, vetting and negotiating commercial agreements, contracts and transaction documents in relation to private equity and M&A, as well as foreign exchange laws, RBI policies and deal structuring. She has represented numerous multinational and foreign companies on investments into India, the establishment of wholly owned subsidiaries, branch and liaison offices, joint ventures and acquisitions. Notable matters include advising Tata Communications on a significant cross-border group restructuring, advising Compass Group on FDI compliance for multi-brand retail trading, and advising Mastercard on the Indian leg of its USD 825 million acquisition of Finicity. She also successfully obtained an interim stay from the Karnataka High Court for the Sami-Sabinsa Group on regulatory restrictions concerning Ashwagandha.

Sameena holds a BLS LL.B. from Mumbai University and is a qualified Company Secretary (PCS) from the Institute of Company Secretaries of India. She is a member of the Bar Council of Maharashtra and Goa.
