Rajarshi Chakrabarti

Rajarshi Chakrabarti (Raj) is a Senior Partner at Kochhar & Co. and heads the Firm's Mumbai office, specialising in Mergers and Acquisitions. He brings close to 3 decades of experience in corporate commercial transactions, including inbound and outbound mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, technical collaborations, and business and asset restructuring. He regularly advises Fortune Global 500 companies on the full spectrum of issues concerning their Indian operations across sectors such as financial services, private equity, engineering, retail, biotechnology, telecom and e-commerce.

Raj also handles complex litigations and negotiations relating to shareholder disputes, large contractual claims and regulatory proceedings. His expertise includes regulatory compliance, risk mitigation, employment law, white-collar crime and corporate governance. Prior to joining Kochhar & Co., Raj served as in-house counsel and was part of the legal leadership teams of one of India's largest private telecom companies and the country's biggest media and entertainment group. Notable transactions include representing Finicity Corp. in its USD 825 million acquisition by MasterCard, advising Aon Plc on its proposed USD 30 billion merger with WTW, and representing Volex Plc in its acquisition of an Indian company.

Raj holds a B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) from the National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bangalore. He is a member of the Bar Council of Delhi and serves as Co-Chairman of the Legal & Regulatory Committee of the Council of EU Chambers of Commerce in India.

He is recognised as a Recommended Lawyer by Legal 500 Asia-Pacific (2026), listed in the Fortune Legal India Excellence Awards 2025 – India's Top 100 Individual Lawyers, and featured in the Forbes India Legal Powerlist (2020, 2021, 2023). He was also the recipient of the Deal of the Year Award 2020 by India Business Law Journal for the Mastercard/Finicity acquisition.
