Shampa Bhattacharya

Shampa Bhattacharya is a Partner in the Indirect Tax practice at Kochhar & Co. in the New Delhi office, specialising in Tax Law. She has more than 15 years of post-qualification experience, with over 11 years of exclusive specialisation in indirect taxes, including Customs, Goods & Services Tax (GST), Service Tax, Excise, Value Added Taxes and Foreign Trade Policy.

Shampa has extensive experience advising large MNCs and Indian companies on structuring tax-efficient transactions, identifying revenue leakages, guiding clients through assessments, audits and revenue investigations, and providing compliance services. She has particular expertise in customs valuation, classification under the Harmonized System of Nomenclature (HSN), anti-dumping matters, export benefits and authorisations under the Foreign Trade Policy, and SEZ-related advisory. She also handles litigation matters before tax authorities and has been involved in GST implementation for MNCs. Prior to joining Kochhar & Co., she worked with Deloitte and Ernst & Young in their indirect tax practices.

Shampa holds an LL.B. and a B.A. (Hons.) in Journalism from the University of Delhi. She is a member of the Bar Council of Delhi.

She has been recognised as a Recommended Lawyer for Tax by The Legal 500 Asia Pacific (2020, 2022).
