Mathew Thomas

Mathew Thomas is a Partner in CMS INDUSLAW's Mumbai office and is part of the Capital Markets practice group. His primary practice area is Capital Markets Law.

He has more than 16 years of experience in equity, debt and hybrid securities offerings. He has advised domestic and international clients in capital markets-related transactions including initial public offerings, rights offerings, qualified institutions placements and FCCB restructuring. He has also worked on public offerings and institutional placements of units and debt securities carried out by REITs and InvITs.

He is a regular speaker and panelist at leading industry and academic forums. He has been invited to speak on India's IPO landscape at the National Investors' Conference organised by the CII Centre of Excellence for Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Startups (CIES), and has served as a panelist at workshops organised by the Climate Bonds Initiative on certification and regulatory aspects of green and municipal bonds. He has also conducted advanced capital markets sessions at academic institutions, including programmes jointly organised by the West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences (WBNUJS) and King's College London.

He is regularly quoted by leading business media on SEBI reforms and capital markets regulation. Prior to joining CMS INDUSLAW, he was a Partner with Saraf and Partners and has also worked in the capital markets teams of other firms such as JSA, Trilegal, Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co. and Khaitan & Co.

He holds a B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) from the National University of Advanced Legal Studies (NUALS), Cochin (2010).
