Akash Chauhan

Akash Chauhan is a member of the Tax team at CMS INDUSLAW. His primary practice area is Tax Law. Prior to joining CMS INDUSLAW, he was part of the Regulatory team of Ernst & Young LLP in their Tax practice, where he advised on implications of the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) for more than eight years, and he has a cumulative experience of nearly 15 years.

His routine practice included assignments of regulatory health checks, where he assisted many companies in resolving their procedural issues with the foreign exchange department and trade division of the Reserve Bank of India, and advising them on compounding procedures or representation before the Enforcement Directorate. He also advises on NBFC regulations and allied matters to various entities in the financial sector or entering that sector.

He has been instrumental in assisting companies in various sectors, including pharmaceutical and defence, in getting approvals and clarifications from the erstwhile FIPB (presently DPIIT). Previously, he also developed the practice of assisting clients in availing weighted deduction under Section 35(2AB) of the Income Tax Act, which involved getting recognitions and approvals for clients conducting in-house R&D from the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR) under the Ministry of Science and Technology.

He is an Advocate in India, a member of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India, and holds an LL.B. from the University of Delhi (2005). He speaks English.
