Rahul Kinra

Rahul Kinra is a Partner and part of the Disputes team at JSA. His primary practice area is Energy Law, and he primarily focuses on regulatory proceedings before statutory authorities, tribunals and courts.

He has been advising clients and rendering legal opinions on regulatory issues relating to the power sector, including tariff fixation and categorisation, suspension of licence, insolvency proceedings, abuse of dominance by a generating company, renewable purchase obligations, parallel licensing, open access, connectivity, banking, cross-subsidy surcharge, power trading, demand side management, power allocation from a generating company, electricity reform and restructuring (including segregation of the distribution sector into wires and retail supply business), safety aspects involving electrical installations, and employee-related issues.

He has represented private distribution companies and solar power developers before the Supreme Court of India, High Court of Delhi, Appellate Tribunal for Electricity, Central & State Electricity Regulatory Commissions, National Company Law Tribunal, National Company Law Appellate Tribunal and District Courts.

He has been working with the Disputes team at JSA since 2013, after graduating with a specialised degree in energy laws.

He is a member of the Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh and the Delhi High Court Bar Association.

He holds a B.A. LL.B (Hons.) from the College of Legal Studies, University of Petroleum & Energy Studies, Dehradun, with a specialisation in Energy Laws. He speaks English and Hindi.
