J.R. Jayant

J.R. Jayant is a Partner in Kochhar & Co.'s Chennai office, with 19 years of experience in litigation and arbitration matters representing clients across India.

His practice includes civil litigation, corporate commercial litigation, alternate dispute resolution and white-collar crime. He regularly represents multinational and domestic corporations before various forums in Tamil Nadu, including the Madras High Court, the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) and statutory tribunals. He has also appeared in numerous domestic arbitration cases involving complex construction contracts, technology transfer and know-how agreements, and labour disputes.

Notable matters include securing interim protection against invocation of a corporate guarantee by a PSU bank, initiating CIRP proceedings against a corporate debtor, advising a Dubai-based company resisting invocation of corporate guarantees, and assisting a Government body in securing a favourable arbitral award relating to maintenance of a research vessel.

J.R. Jayant holds a B.A. B.L. from Dr. Ambedkar Government Law College, Chennai. He is a member of the Bar Council of Tamil Nadu.
