Hemant Puthran

Hemant Puthran is a Senior Partner and senior member of the Corporate practice at the Mumbai office, with a primary focus on Mergers and Acquisitions. He has been associated with the firm since 1999 and is a qualified Company Secretary.

He specializes in advising corporate clients on acquisitions and dispositions of businesses and business assets, joint ventures, technology transfer, and inbound and outbound investments. His work includes transaction structuring, leading due diligence, drafting contractual agreements and documents, negotiating deals, and providing overall transactional support, including regulatory approvals from the Reserve Bank of India, the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade and the Securities & Exchange Board of India.

He also provides continuing legal advice to domestic and international clients, from start-up ventures to publicly held corporations, in commercial contracts, employment law, setting up of subsidiaries, branches and liaison offices, statutory registrations, corporate governance and compliance matters. His related practice areas include private equity, general corporate and commercial, corporate governance and compliance, and employment law.

He has been independently endorsed as a Leading Lawyer in Corporate/M&A by Asia Law Leading Lawyers 2018. He has contributed the Indian legal perspective to the Handbook on International Employee Equity Plans: Participation Beyond Borders, published by Kluwer Law International in cooperation with member firms of the World Law Group, and to the firm publication India Business Guide – Start-up to Set-up. He also co-authored the chapter on 'Establishing a business in India' in a multi-jurisdictional guide published by Thomson Reuters.

He holds a B.Com, LL.B. and F.C.S., and is admitted to the Bar Council of Maharashtra & Goa. He speaks English, Hindi and Marathi.
