Sharmil Bhushan

Sharmil Bhushan is a Partner within the Banking & Finance team at Kochhar & Co. in the Mumbai office, specialising in Banking and Finance Law. With over 16 years of experience, her practice spans banking and finance, investment funds, financial services, mergers and acquisitions, private equity, structuring and funds formation, inbound and outbound investments, securities markets, joint ventures, corporate and debt restructuring, and insolvency proceedings.

Sharmil regularly advises Indian and multinational banks, NBFCs, financial institutions and corporates across sectors on capital expenditure, project and acquisition financing, leveraged buyouts, and the structuring of debt, quasi-debt and equity transactions. She has extensive experience in debt restructuring, security enforcement and the insolvency resolution process under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code. She also advises on the establishment of private equity funds, offshore funds, venture capital funds, alternative investment funds (AIFs), infrastructure investment trusts (InvITs) and real estate investment trusts (REITs). Her corporate advisory work includes deal structuring, negotiations, documentation and advising boards of listed and unlisted companies on governance issues.

Sharmil holds a Bachelor of Law from Mumbai University and is a qualified Company Secretary from the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI). She is a member of the Bar Council of Maharashtra and Goa and regularly contributes to legal academia as an honorary professor.
