Bharadwaj Jaishankar

Bharadwaj Jaishankar is a Partner in CMS INDUSLAW's Intellectual Property practice group, based in the Bengaluru office. His primary practice area is Intellectual Property Law.

He has over 18 years of experience in the field of intellectual property rights, involving the protection, enforcement and commercialisation of intellectual property assets.

His past work experience includes stints with some of India's leading Tier-1 intellectual property boutique law firms. In his last professional commitment, he was the IP and Innovation Counsel for one of the world's leading FMCG organisations, responsible for intellectual property and innovation legal issues for the APAC region. During his time with law firms, he was actively involved in some precedent-setting judgments passed by various Courts in India. He has also advised a diverse range of clients on various aspects of IP rights, as well as related areas including information technology law, internet law, contract law and general commercial law. On behalf of the Government of India, he successfully led and coordinated a team comprising law firms across 50 countries for protecting and enforcing rights for one of India's landmark and renowned Geographical Indications.

He supports clients on various IP matters, including protecting and enforcing IP assets. His practice also involves conducting IP due diligences and audits, as well as advising on IP structuring in corporate and commercial transactions. He often consults on a wide range of IP commercialisation issues for clients across various business sectors including technology, media, FMCG, manufacturing, e-commerce, software and finance. He also advises on protecting IP rights through the internet, as well as with customs authorities.

He is a visiting faculty member at a leading law university in India and regularly speaks at various national and international conferences on diverse IP topics. He is currently an active member of the International Trademark Association (INTA) and is part of INTA's Internet Committee. He is a regular contributor of articles for national and international publications, including "Deepfakes – A growing concern on misuse of personality rights" (The New Indian Express, October 2024) and "Generative AI and intellectual property rights: An uneasy co-existence" (Financial Express, June 2023).

His recognition includes being recognised as a leading lawyer and a recommended lawyer by Legal500, and listed as a Trademarks Star by IP Stars. He has also been recognised by Asia IP, Asian Legal Business (ALB), Chambers & Partners Asia-Pacific and World Trademark Review.

He holds a BBA LL.B. from Symbiosis International University and is an Advocate in India. He speaks English.
